T.K. Chiba Shihan Private Swords and Fittings Collection
For sale for the benefit of the Chiba family
Japanese swords are normally set in koshirae, which includes a saya (scabbard), a tsuka (handle) and various other items, notably tsuba, seppa and habaki.
The tsuka is fit with menuki and fuchi/kashira.
A kozuka is a decorative handle holding the kogatana, a small steel knife. Kozuka and kōgai (a spike for hair arranging carried in another pocket on the saya) can usually be found on wakizashi type swords.
Makers of kozuka, kogatana, kōgai, menuki and fuchi/kashira were usually different artists.
